I got hired at Tebra as a Software Engineer III. I’d been looking since January and had sent out a couple hundred applications by then. My résumé had travelled considerably farther than I had, although neither of us seemed to be getting anywhere. I applied to Tebra in late May, and the conversations gave me something more useful to think about than what color bin my application might have been thrown into.
What struck me most was how real the interviewers were. Like they all read that cheesy quote about checking your ego at the door. It was honestly a breath of fresh air talking about the work at hand instead of competing for smartest person in the room without making it obvious.
They let the job speak for itself, which is to say it wasn't going to change the course of human history. Just a software engineering position they needed a software engineer to fill. There's something reassuring about meeting people who can explain a job honestly and still leave you wanting to do it.
I'm looking forward to finding out what we can build together. My résumé, meanwhile, can stay wherever it wandered off to last.
